Throughout the winter, Stafford’s softball team conditioned for tryouts. Tryouts are from Feb 19 to Feb 21.

The softball team is currently working on some skills and building their strength.

“Conditioning helps with upper body strength, endurance and lower body strength, also I have learned footwork and different plays”, freshman Deja Sanders said.

The majority of the girls trying out come into the sport with at least little bit of experience.

“I’ve been playing softball for two years, but only on a school team,”Sanders said.

There are also different levels of experienced girls.

“I’ve been playing softball for 10 years, and I also play on a Unity team,” freshman Emma Butler said .

Softball is a great sport to interact with new people each year and build a bond with those individuals and also a bond with the coach.

“I’m hoping to make new friends and experience a  new coach,” freshman Aubrey Ponton said.

Playing sports in highschool can lead to college scholarships and overall more relationships with people you want to be around.

“I want to get to know the girls better and also pursue softball in college,” Butler said.

Playing the sport throughout the years is a great way to build new skills with different team players and a different coach.

“I have been playing softball since 6th grade and learning new skills with new people is a great way to be a better player,” Ponton said.

Stafford’s high school softball team looks very experienced and new this year.

“I believe the team will be successful this year,” Sanders said “There’s a lot of hard working experienced girls trying out.”

Tryouts and conditioning help the coach determine what positions he wants for each player, and what each player wants.

“I’m really hoping to get second base or outfield this year,” Butler said.
